December News

Ross Patterson Workshoppastel2
A small but enthusiastic group attended the Ross Patterson Pastel Workshop at the Tooleybuc Club in October. Ross discussed the importance of composition, perpective (aerial and linear) as he launched into each painting. On Wednesday “sheep” were the topic.
After a quick sketch to plan out the painting, shapes emerged, an underpainting in warm colours, then the sheep emerged as extra layers were added. On Thursday we were challenged with landscapes in the morning and then figures in the afternoon, it was
a great learning experience and we all came away with challenges to master.

Sunrise Rotary Producers & Creators MarketArtists at the Sunrise Rotary Market in November
We participated in this Market on Sunday the 3rd of November at the Spoons car park. It was another opportunity to promote our group. Six members took the opportunity to display their work, it was windy and we were unable to put up our stands but we made do with trestles. There were no sales and the crowd was down on previous markets but we enjoyed each others company and chatting with the other stall holders.

Plein air painting at the Pioneer Settlement - Swan HillPlein Air Painting

For our final workshop we again worked with Glenda Cornell this time at the Pioneer Settlement working “Plein Air” in the open air, the idea being to get our strokes on the board quickly getting an impression of the subject getting the light and atmosphere right. Most of us were a little slow and the weather was warm so it was a challenge but the twelve participants enjoyed the day.

Wild & Windy!

Some of our artists braved the windy weather at Sunrise Rotary’s Melbourne Cup weekend market.

Judy, our brave leader tackled the job of putting up the marquee which did stay up despite our early concerns !

The display looked great and once again was a good opportunity to get together and promote our group.

Thanks to all who helped on the day!

More Members for MASH

On February 26th, Mallee Artists Swan Hill were pleased to welcome a group of local artists formerly painting as “Dawn’s Group at Dowling House” for 30 years.

Kathy Wiseman and Peter Holt, proprietors of the Murray River Motel, have extended their hospitality to further accommodate these friends-in-art.

Several have intentions of joining MASH, which provides regular newsletters through President Judy Brawn, and discounts at the frequent workshops during each year’s activities. Workshops with professional artists may be for one day or a weekend, costs announced in the newsletters.

MASH participates in local and regional art shows, and weekend markets where their banner will be displayed.

Annual membership is $25.00.Some art suppliers give discounts on MASH  membership cards.

We meet from 10am to 3pm each Tuesday in the lounge area of the Murray River Motel, a pleasant well-lit space,  sufficient for about sixteen people.

The “High Noon train” at the nearby crossing signals our (BYO) lunch break, ending around 1.00pm with its return trip to Melbourne!

Currently the members will be preparing works for the Anglican Art Show, May 31st, June 1st & 2nd. Entry forms out soon.
